mlstowe_200x266Mary Louise Stowe is a Christian and a lifelong resident of Madison County, AL. She grew up in Gurley and graduated valedictorian from Madison County High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University.

Mary Louise is married to retired teacher and coach, Glynn Stowe. They have two adult daughters, Ginger Stowe Henshaw and Katy Stowe Raney. The Stowes are the proud grandparents of two grandsons, a step-grandson, and a step-grand daughter who are all students in District 3 schools.

Mary Louise spent 27 years as a public school teacher. She taught at Lakewood Elementary, Madison County Elementary, Owens Cross Roads School, and Central School.

Throughout her adult life, she has been a student advocate. She served as a member and officer of PTAs where she taught and also where her children attended school. Mary Louise served two terms as president of the Madison County Council of PTAs, eight years as a school trustee, and was active in securing funding for the Madison County school system.

Mary Louise has served as the District 3 Madison County School Board Representative since 2006 and has worked tirelessly to improve the schools across the county. She is dedicated to securing the absolute best education possible for students.

During her tenure on the Board, she has continuously trained in order to become a more effective Board member. She has received Master School Board status in Alabama Association of School Board’s School Board Member Academy with 248.75 hours in professional development. Mary Louise currently serves on the Alabama Association of School Boards Multi-Cultural committee.

Mary Louise is an active member of the Gurley United Methodist Church where she serves as a lay speaker, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee Chairperson, and the Marvelous Monday Program Administrator. She also coordinates a free tutoring service at the church every Wednesday from October until May for neighboring Madison County Elementary students.

Enjoying being involved in her community, Mary Louise is a member of the Gurley Lioness Club, the Gurley and New Hope Friends of the Library, the Southeast Madison County Business Association, Madison County High School Alumni Association, and Gurley’s Community of Faith Initiative.
